In this week’s 5 minute update, we focused on several things:

1) The current status of the Israel / PLO peace process
2) The US economy in 2011

The Palestinians still insist that they will not talk with Israel if they build in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.  In the meantime, the PLO continues to lobby nations to recognize a PLO state based upon the 1967 borders. Guyana is the latest nation to do so.  The PLO say that their goal in doing this is to give them better leverage in negotiating with Israel.  Meanwhile, the PLO say that they will seek for UN Security Council recognition of a PLO state based upon 1967 borders in September, 2011.  When it does, Norway says that it will be the first EU state to recognize it.  EU consuls-general in Israel are demanding that Israel quit building in East Jerusalem.  The PLO say that the US is not working hard enough to create a PLO state.  The PLO plans to seek a UN Security Council vote in the coming week against Israel building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. While the US agrees in the principal with the resolution, it says that it will veto this measure and seek to restart direct talks with the two sides.  The US held talks with Israel and the PLO representatives this week in Washington.  The US has convened several task forces to recommend ways to get the peace talks going. It appears that the task force will recommend that the US will present it own peace initiative and present the outline of a final status settlement to the PLO and Israel. If this is done, it most likely will be at the end of January.  This would create the environment to discuss the US plan at the scheduled meeting of the Quartet (UN, EU, USA and Russia) on February 5 in Germany regarding the current situation with the Israel / PLO peace process.

An agreement to divide Jerusalem and establish a PLO state is a tribulation event.

US banks repossessed over 1 million US homes in 2010.  It is expected that there will be 1.2 million in 2011. 2% of all US homes received a foreclosure notice in 2010. The US Federal budget deficit is expected to exceed 1 Trillion dollars again in 2011.  Because of these things, Americans believe that China is a greater economic power in the world today rather than the US.  Citigroup executives warn that sovereign debt fears will spread to the USA and Japan this year. CBS 60 minutes did a TV segment in December indicating that US states and cities are facing massive budget deficits this year and will create a municipal bond crisis in the USA and possible bankruptcy of some states and cities.

A collapse of the US dollar and the establishment of one world currency is a tribulation event.

From a Biblical prophetic perspective, the reason why the God of Israel would allow these events to happen is because it will result in the end of the exile of the house of Jacob and the reunification of the 12 tribes of Israel (Ephraim and Judah).

We will to be “watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem” and we will not rest until the God of Israel makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62).

Shalom in Yeshua the Messiah,
