In this week’s 5 minute update, we focused on several things:

1) The current status of the Israel / PLO peace process
2) The situation in Egypt and a political rift between the USA and Saudi Arabia
3) The possibility of war with Iran
4) The US budget deficit and France wanting a world currency

A UN Security Council Resolution which declares Israel building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as being ‘illegal’ was vetoed by the US on Friday even though the US opposes Israel building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The 14 other Security Council members approved the measure. US President Barack Obama called Mahmood Abbas to persuade him to accept a compromise wherein the US would support a non-binding statement similar to the UN Resolution in exchange for the US calling for the establishment of a PLO state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital in next month’s Quartet meeting. However. Mahmood Abbas rejected the offer and called for an emergency PLO Executive Committee meeting to discuss the issue.  Meanwhile, the EU’s foreign ministry Catherine Ashton is calling for the establishment of a PLO state by September. British Foreign Secretary William Hague is also calling for the international community to recognize a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

An agreement to divide Jerusalem and establish a PLO state is a tribulation event.

Regarding the situation in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood is seeking to establish a political party with the goal to implement Sharia law in Egypt. Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah who is close friends with Hosni Mubarak was deeply upset with Barack Obama believing that the US abandoned the former Egyptian leader much too quickly and with very little political support of him. This is creating a lack of trust in Saudi Arabia that the US will do the same to it. As a result, Saudi Arabia is seeking to become more friendly with Iran. In a token of the trust with Saudi Arabia, former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak transferred his wealth from Europe to Saudi Arabia.

Regarding Iran, two Iranian warships have been given permission by Egypt to cross the Suez Canal.  Israel believes that one of the ships contains long-range missiles for Hizballah which it plans to unload in Syria.  This event could fuel the fire to spark a regional war in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Iran is seeking to destabilize Bahrain to gain greater influence in the Persian Gulf.  These developments are a major threat to world oil supplies and the price of oil with potential adverse consequences for the entire world economy.

A US war with Iran is a tribulation event.

President Barack Obama has submitted his new budget to Congress. It estimates that the fiscal deficit for 2011 will exceed 1.5 Trillion dollars. Furthermore, it predicts over a Trillion dollar US deficit for the next 10 years raising the total US Federal debt to over 26 Trillion dollars during this time. Meanwhile, France is calling for a new global financial system which would replace the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency calling for a one world currency based upon the IMF SDR’s (Special Drawing Rights) which would seek to include the Chinese Yuan in a basket of currencies which establishes the value for the potential new world currency.

A collapse of the US dollar and the establishment of one world currency is a tribulation event.

From a Biblical prophetic perspective, the reason why the God of Israel would allow these events to happen is because it will result in the end of the exile of the house of Jacob and the reunification of the 12 tribes of Israel (Ephraim and Judah).

We will to be “watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem” and we will not rest until the God of Israel makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62).

Shalom in Yeshua the Messiah,
